Treatment for FMP

For my final major project I would like to focus on making a found footage genre  based film, this would be made to look real but is staged.  This film would have elements of the scare factor that exist in such films as ‘The Blair Witch Project’ (1999) and ‘Paranormal Activity’ (2007)but instead of the story revolving around the paranormal it would focus on a real life serial killer. The back story of the film would focus around a YouTube user that frequently uploads videos every week. The YouTube user is becoming more successful with their channel and begins to notice some weird activity occurring in their videos. After a series of videos the YouTube user realises that they are being stalked by a creepy character, firstly it looks like an obsession then it turns in to something more sinister.

After trying to get more evidence the YouTube user suddenly stops posting their video blogs and mysteriously disappears. Is there missing footage to be found? Footage that would possibly reveal the whereabouts of the YouTube user? Or show something more dark and sinister about the stalker?

The film would take place as an investigation piece to try and find the whereabouts of the YouTube user. It would include original footage and footage from cameras that have yet to be uploaded and then footage film the exact same way of the department continuing research themselves on film.

The police investigation starts as a missing person case but as the film goes on they realise that there is a lot more to this suspect that they know. The film touches on other cases the suspect is linked to and how the killer has an obsession for film himself. We find out that the killer thrives off being watched and the more dangerous the situation the more he enjoys it.

The police man and his family become the next obsession for the killer and he starts to make a film of his own about the investigation towards him.  is the killer alone? or does he also have a wife that’s involved?

Is this film an investigation of an investigation? Are we watching this film after the detective has figured out who the killer is? Or are we  the investigation in to the death of the detective? How many layers is there and how many people are filming what’s happening? Will the YouTube user resurface again during this film?

This film has the possibility to become a franchise . The footage could all come together over a series of films to form the story of the serial killer . We have lots of  ways of capturing footage ,for example our cameras that we own, to our camera phones, our web cams , security footage in shops and buildings all over the city, there are even drone cameras . There are so many different ways of being watched,  anybody can be watching and that idea  scares me. I would like to warn people about what could happen in a very realistic way.

I would like to leave this film on a cliff hanger as I like the idea of this film becoming a franchise and telling the audience about the characters involved in a clever and interesting way. I would like to tell the story of the killer before he starts stalking the YouTuber , then the story of the Detective hunting the killer , then the aftermath.
